Why This Site Exists
Preston County property research often involves separate county and state tools. Deeds and land instruments are recorded by the County Clerk; assessment values and parcel cards belong to the Assessor; tax tickets are handled by the Sheriff’s Tax Office; and GIS viewers supply map context. We organize links, office contacts, and the access details found in the research so a reader can choose a useful starting point without confusing one record system for another.
What You Will Find Here
- Pages by record type: property search, deed records, property tax records, and parcel maps
- The offices behind the records: the County Clerk, Assessor, Sheriff’s Tax Office, and state and county mapping resources
- Search walkthroughs: how to search by address, owner, or parcel; how to trace a chain of title; how to read a tax bill and a parcel map
- Access rules: how West Virginia’s Freedom of Information Act directs public-record requests to the agency holding a record, and which copy details have not been published
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, not a Preston County office or West Virginia agency. It does not maintain the county’s records, certify copies, complete a title search, decide a tax appeal, or revise an assessment. Keep these limits in mind:
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot perform a title search or guarantee clear ownership
- We cannot appraise a property or set its assessed value
- We cannot give legal advice about a deed, a boundary, or a tax dispute
- We cannot promise that every portal link, coverage detail, or office procedure remains current
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record, and only a title company or licensed surveyor can settle title or a boundary. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
